Peer-Review Policy
Overview & Scope
Peer review is central to our mission of disseminating robust, reproducible, and ethical research. This policy applies to all submissions across Open Access Pub journals hosted on ManuscriptZone, including original research, reviews, case reports, and short communications.
Our editors coordinate a fair, timely, and constructive review process focused on scientific rigor and clarity.
Peer-Review Model
- Default: Single-blind peer review (authors are anonymized during review).
- Alternatives: Double-blind or transparent review may be used by specific journals when clearly stated in their author guidelines.
- Number of reviews: Typically two independent expert reviews; a third may be invited when needed.
Submission to Decision
- Initial checks: Scope, format, completeness, plagiarism screening, and basic ethical compliance.
- Editor assignment: An Editor or Associate Editor oversees the evaluation.
- Reviewer invitations: Qualified reviewers are invited with clear deadlines and guidance.
- Review focus: Validity of methods, originality, significance, clarity, data availability, and ethical compliance.
- Author revisions: If revisions are requested, authors submit a point-by-point response and revised files.
- Final decision: The handling editor issues a decision based on reviews and policy.
Reviewer Selection & Conflicts of Interest
- Expertise: Reviewers are selected for subject expertise and prior scholarship.
- Independence: We avoid recent collaborators, advisors/advisees, and same institution relationships where conflicts may exist.
- Disclosures: Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts before accepting.
- Conduct: Reviews must be objective, respectful, and evidence-based; personal or discriminatory remarks are not permitted.
Standards & Ethics
- Ethical approvals: Studies involving humans/animals must include appropriate approvals and consent statements.
- Data & materials: Authors should provide data availability statements and, where feasible, share data/code and materials.
- Reporting: Follow recognized reporting standards (e.g., CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE) as applicable.
- Plagiarism & redundancy: Submissions are screened; overlapping or duplicate publications are investigated.
Confidentiality & Anonymity
- Manuscripts and reviews are confidential and may not be shared without permission.
- Reviewer identities are kept confidential unless a transparent review model is explicitly used.
- Editors and staff access submissions only as required to manage the process.
Timelines
- Desk screening: typically 3–7 days.
- Review round: normally 2–4 weeks per round (may vary by field and reviewer availability).
- Revisions: author timelines depend on requested changes (minor: ~7–14 days; major: ~3–6 weeks).
Editors may expedite time-sensitive articles when justified.
Editorial Decisions
- Accept
- Minor revision
- Major revision
- Reject
Decisions are based on reviewer input, editor assessment, and adherence to journal scope and policies.
Allegations & Misconduct
We follow COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidance when handling concerns such as plagiarism, data fabrication, image manipulation, authorship disputes, or undisclosed conflicts. Corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions may be issued when warranted.
Appeals & Complaints
Authors may appeal decisions by providing a reasoned response addressing reviewer/editor concerns. Appeals are evaluated by a senior editor not involved in the original decision, where feasible. Complaints regarding editorial conduct are investigated according to our ethics framework.
Transparency, Preprints & Open Review
- Preprints: Posting on recognized preprint servers is permitted; authors should disclose preprint DOIs on submission.
- Open review: Some journals may publish review summaries or reviewer names with consent; journal-level policies will state this clearly.
- Data transparency: Data availability statements are required; sharing is encouraged where ethical and legal.
