Publication Ethics & Malpractice
Principles & Scope
We follow COPE guidance to ensure that research published in our journals is ethical, transparent, and reproducible. This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers involved in the publication process.
Integrity is a shared responsibility. All parties must act professionally and in good faith.
Responsibilities
- Authors: Submit original work, disclose conflicts, follow reporting standards, and correct the record when necessary.
- Reviewers: Provide objective, confidential, and timely reviews. Declare conflicts and report suspected issues.
- Editors: Make fair decisions based on merit and policy. Manage conflicts, safeguard confidentiality, and act on concerns.
- Publisher: Support editorial independence, maintain archival integrity, and implement ethical policies consistently.
Authorship & Contributions
- Authorship is limited to those who made substantial contributions to conception or design, data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation; drafting or critical revision; and final approval.
- Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately with permission.
- Changes to authorship after submission must be explained and approved by all authors and the editor.
Originality & Plagiarism
- Submissions must be original and not under review elsewhere.
- Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism and unattributed text reuse, is prohibited. Screening tools may be used at submission and acceptance.
- Prior preprints are acceptable; disclose preprint DOIs at submission.
Data Integrity & Availability
- Report methods and analyses with sufficient detail for replication.
- Avoid fabrication, falsification, and inappropriate image manipulation.
- Provide a data availability statement; share data and code where feasible and ethical.
Ethics Approvals & Consent
- Human and animal studies must include appropriate ethics approvals and informed consent statements.
- Clinical trials should include registration details where applicable.
- Protect participant privacy and follow relevant regulations.
Conflicts of Interest
- All authors, reviewers, and editors must declare financial and non-financial interests that could influence the work or its evaluation.
- Editors will manage conflicts transparently and may reassign manuscripts when needed.
Citation Practices
- Citations should recognize relevant prior work without coercion or unnecessary self-citation.
- Editors and reviewers must not pressure authors to cite specific journals or articles without clear scholarly justification.
Redundant & Duplicate Publication
- Submitting the same or substantially similar work to multiple journals is not permitted.
- Secondary publication may be acceptable with transparency, permissions, and citation of the primary source.
Allegations of Misconduct
We follow COPE workflows to address concerns such as plagiarism, data manipulation, authorship disputes, and ethical violations. Investigations are conducted fairly and confidentially, with opportunities for response.
Corrections, Retractions & Expressions of Concern
- Corrections: Issued when minor errors do not compromise the findings.
- Expressions of Concern: Issued when serious issues are under investigation.
- Retractions: Issued when findings are unreliable, unethical, or the work was published in error.
Appeals & Complaints
Authors may appeal editorial decisions with a reasoned response. Complaints about editorial conduct are addressed by a senior editor or the publisher according to policy.
